Duties and Responsibilities

Teach courses in the assigned subject area;

Prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress;

Assess student learning in terms of course competencies and program learning outcomes;

Submit self-assessment reports based on student and peer evaluations;

Work under the general supervision of the discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area;

Maintain one office hour per week for each class taught (20 minutes per credit per week).

Classes may be offered online, evenings and/or weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

AMERICAN STUDIES:

Master’s degree in American Studies.

ART (Applied and Studio):

(a) Master’s degree in Art or Fine Art; OR

(b) Master recognition by Applied Art Community and 10 years related work experience.

ART (History and Theory):

Master’s degree in Art.

ART (New Media):

(a) Master's in Fine Arts in Studio Art with the specialization in new media art or a related area of study (i.e. design, animation, digital art, digital media, multimedia, computer graphics, film, etc) and 1 year related industry experience; OR

(b) Any Master's degree with coursework in new media art or a related area of study and 3 years related industry experience; OR

(c) Any Bachelor's degree with coursework in new media art or a related area of study and 5 years related industry experience; OR

(d) Any Associate's degree with coursework in new media art or a related area of study and 7 years related industry experience.

DANCE (Performance Oriented):

(a) Master’s degree in Dance, OR

(b) Bachelor’s degree in Dance and 3 years related work experience, OR

(c) Master recognition by Dance Community and 10 years related work experience.

DRAMA AND THEATRE:

(a) Master’s degree in Drama or Theatre, OR

(b) Master recognition by Drama and Theatre Community and 10 years related work experience.

HAWAIIAN/PACIFIC STUDIES:

(a) Master’s degree (Focus on Hawaiian and/or Pacific Island areas), OR

(b) Bachelor’s degree (Focus on Hawaiian and/or Pacific Island areas) and 3 years related work experience.

HISTORY:

Master’s degree in History.

MUSIC (History and Theory):

Master’s degree in Music.

MUSIC (Performance Oriented):

(a) Master’s degree in Music, OR

(b) Bachelor’s degree in Music and 3 years related work experience, OR

(c) Master recognition by Music Community and 10 years related work experience.

PHILOSOPHY:

Master’s degree in Philosophy.

RELIGION:

Master’s degree in Religion

SPEECH:

Master’s degree in Speech, Communicology, Communication, Communication Studies or Speech Communication

Desirable Qualifications

Teaching experience at the community college level.

Demonstrated ability to work with community college students.

Work experience related to course to be taught.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively.

Familiarity with competency- and outcomes-based instruction.
