rnProvide an effective instrumental music education to students; duties include all aspects of the band organization, auditions, programming and rehearsing all music for ensemble performances at concerts, assemblies, contests, civic performances and festivals
rn Essential Functions:
rn Ensure safety of students
rn Teach and evaluate the students using a variety of instructional techniques that meet individual learning styles
rn Effectively manage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain a good learning environment, disciplining students when necessary
rn Prepare clear and timely lesson plans
rn Maintain accurate and complete records as required
rn Provide guidance to students, which will promote their welfare and their proper educational development
rn Attend parent/teacher conferences
rn Distribute course-related assignments
rn Ensure students are learning all subject material by appropriately assessing on a regular basis
rn Provide complete lesson plans for substitute
rn Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with parents through effective use of interim reports, report cards and conferences and personal telephone calls
rn Assist the administration in implementing all procedures and rules governing student life
rn Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
rn Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and present clear, complete, and accurate explanations utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and media suitable to the level of learners
rn Act as teacher, facilitator and information source in subject area specialty
rn Teach new concepts and facilitate different activities enabling students to learn in different ways
rn Act as a mentor for teachers new to the district
rn Organize various subject-specific programs within assigned building
rn Maintain respect at all times for confidential information
rn Attend meetings and in-services as required
rn Refer attendance, health, and psychological emotional problems to Principal and/or Guidance Counselor
rn Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
rn Make contact with the public with tact and diplomacy
rn Interact with Superintendent and/or Board of Education and present information as requested
rn Teach students using sound instructional practices
rn Collaborate with colleagues
rn Attend educational field trips
rn Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity of students
rn Refer students suspected of learning disabilities to the intervention assistance team
rn Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined by the State Department of Education content Standard, proficiency outcomes and courses of study as approved by the Board of Education
rn Notify parents if student is not meeting classroom goals
rn Implement instructional strategies that incorporate content standards for subject matter area of expertise
rn Direct the jazz band, the marching band, and the middle school concert band
rn Prepare students for solo, ensemble, symphonic band and/or band contests
rn Schedule numerous band related events, including performances, camp and clinic arrangements, field trips and award programs (Note: all required performances will be listed at the beginning of each school year and approved by the MS/HS Principal)
rn Arrange for photo opportunities
rn Organize and coordinate fund raising activities for the band
rn Other Duties and Responsibilities:
rn Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
rn Work closely with administrators as part of development teams to discuss and implement new practices such as team teaching, semester projects, etc.
rn Serve as a role model for students
rn Supervise student teachers
rn Respond to routine questions and requests in a timely, appropriate manner
rn Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal and/or Curriculum Director
rn Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships
rn Assist in the selection of textbooks, equipment, and other educational materials
rn Participate in committees, study teams, and co-curricular activities as agreed upon
rn Participate in intervention assistance team meetings as appropriate
rn Maintain and improve professional competence by attending professional seminars, workshops, etc. to keep current on relevant issues
rn Counsel, advise, encourage, and motivate students
rn Qualifications:
rn Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in education with appropriate subject area from a four-year college or university
rn Successful student teaching and/or student teaching experience
rn Appropriate State of Ohio certification/license
rnrn Meet the applicable requirement of a “highly qualified” teacher under the No Child Left Behind Act within the requirements
rn Provide evidence of active participation in Teacher Based Team meetings
rn Be able to demonstrate how you have applied knowledge and skills acquired from professional development in your content area
rn Provide evidence to demonstrate knowledge of Ohio’s New Learning Standards and assessments for this job vacancy
rn Provide evidence to demonstrate the implementation of Ohio’s New Learning Standards in your content area
rn Provide documentation of student achievement and progress as it pertains to this job vacancy
