Description The Irish Dance Instructor is responsible for planning and leading general and\/or specialized activities for program participants. Supervision Received and Exercised This position receives direct supervision from the Center Supervisor, limited supervision from the Program Coordinator and exercises no supervision over other employees. Essential Job Functions Plan, lead and oversee recreational activities. Provide a program\/class atmosphere that promotes and encourages inclusion and satisfaction of all participants. Identify materials and equipment needed. Purchase supplies, coordinating expenditures with District policies. Perform set ups for program activity area and ensure classroom and\/or activity area is safe for use. Ensure all participants are registered and maintain accurate attendance records. Clean up classroom and\/or activity area and return equipment to proper storage areas, turn off all equipment, lights, stereo, air conditioning, TV, etc. and properly secure classroom at the end of work shift. Ensure the safety of program participants and if necessary, provide first aid. Report all incidents\/accidents to the Supervisor, immediately. Complete and submit accident\/incident records and forms. Distribute program evaluation forms to participants. Review feedback and utilize information to enhance program. Greet the public, respond to written and verbal questions regarding registration and provide information of District-wide programs over the phone and in person. Provide excellent internal and external customer service. Create a positive experience for patrons through professional and courteous behavior. Practice safe work habits and contributes to the safety of self, co-workers and general public. Respect diversity in the workplace. \u00a0 OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS Assist in the development of program budget and the monitoring of expenses. Attend staff meetings, as required. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge of: Basic principles, practices and rules related to assigned area of instruction. Basic principles and practices of planning, and implementing a recreational program. Principles of group dynamics and group interaction. Emergency procedures and accident site management. Basic principles and practices of leadership and group organization. Ability to: Teach and lead groups of various ages and ability levels, in the area of assignment. Follow written and oral instructions; speak clearly and concisely, in English. Interpret, explain, follow and apply District policies and written instructions. Keep accurate records. Work in a group or individual situation. Identify and prevent hazards, implement solutions, maintain safe environments. Communicate courteously and cooperatively with other staff and the general public, on the telephone or in person, including handling difficult or irate people. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, other staff members, program participants and the general public. Maintain a neat, professional appearance. \u00a0 LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, and OTHER REQUIREMENTS Current First Aid and CPR certifications. Experience and Training Guidelines Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that would likely provide the applicant with the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: Minimum two years experience in specialty area AND Education\/Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade plus additional specialized training equivalent to two years of college.
