The Technical Director Sr. is responsible for the delivery of safe and reliable technical production of Shows/Venues/Events for the Walt Disney Company Parks & Resorts, leading technical direction efforts for multiple projects and teams as assigned.

Responsibilities

Evaluate proposals for Show/Venue/Event designs and systems for cost effectiveness, predictability, adaptability and reliability

Accountable for developing specific procedures for bidding/awarding work to all Show/Venue/Event contracted vendors including the development and implementation of all standardized bid format and documentation processes

Function as the central point of contact for all technical Show/Venue/Event specific vendors

Coordinate with other production teams and senior project staff on all related issues including procurement information and plans, assuring vendor compliance to budget and schedule

Develop guidelines for/oversee all closeout aspects of show/venue/event technical programs

Function as Subject Matter Expert for respective disciplines, prioritizing, organizing and problem solving over the entire course of projects

Provide oversight for venue specific systems as they relate to and support entertainment programming and participate in show/venue vendor qualification process

Develop show/venue project standards regarding vendor fabrication responsibilities and deliverables

Ensure compliance with all local codes and standards, and with TWDC Standards specifications and process standards for the manufacture, shipping and installation of all technical elements

In cooperation with the Project Manager, the Technical Director Sr. coordinates the details of Show/Venue/Event installation schedules.

Ensures that other technical staff, consultants and vendors provide sufficient documentation and training to staff and vendors in order to effectively operate the show product(s) past park opening

Represents specific show/venue in all work sessions and coordinates information with production team

Reviews and comments or corrects construction documentation and drawings

Develops, reviews, comments and corrects construction and production schedules with regard to the installation of entertainment systems and components

Participates in the determination of most efficient production strategy ensuring cost efficiency, product quality, functionality and schedule compliance

Manages all technical vendor business issues including change-order approval and scheduling

Reviews and coordinates all vendor produced drawn and written documentation

Coordinates with other teams and senior project staff and partners with groups such as WSA, WSS, and Design & Engineering to aid in any necessary strategic and tactical work

An engaged leader of theatrical and other industry technology research/development efforts, the Technical Director Sr. participates as necessary with other Company technology divisions and consistently demonstrates commitment to both on-going personal and departmental education for WDP&R and industry standards.

Basic Qualifications

Minimum of 6 years professional technical experience within the theatrical or entertainment attraction based arenas

Strong knowledge and understanding of operation and artistic application of state-of-the-art technology/industry standards for a wide variety of show systems/technology (audio/visual, broadcast, effects, lighting, control systems, scenery, rigging, puppetry and facilities) as applied to live show/facility systems (theatrical, industrial, concert, touring, etc.)

Proven experience/knowledge of theatrical or attraction based audio, video, lighting, show control, mechanical rigging, special effect and scenic systems and equipment

Possess an in-depth understanding of design intent and the ability for realizing it through the effective execution of the creative process

Thorough working knowledge of design/operation of audio, video, lighting, show action and show control equipment including ability to read technical or electronic equipment design documentation, including wiring and/or interface facility diagrams

Proven thorough working knowledge and experience with facility construction and entertainment systems fabrication and installation

Demonstrated familiarity with terms used in construction drawings and ability to read and understand the information contained on drawings

Demonstrated familiarity with local building and electrical codes to be able to identify potential code problems during equipment installation

Demonstrated familiarity with facility interface details for systems and their components in order to verify equipment locations, mounting details, and interface to facility systems and structures

Possess basic knowledge of quality entertainment related vendors or entertainment system providers

Ability to review and comment or correct construction documentation and drawings for completeness, appropriateness and accuracy in fulfilling the entertainment systems or components within a facility or building

Proven ability to collaborate with diverse multidisciplinary requirements and focus on project goals in support of the creative process and in partnership with other designers, directors, writers, project managers, and producers

Demonstrated ability to research/present design options so teams can make informed decisions that result in greater project depth

Proven inclination to generate ideas with great fluency

Strong understanding and experience in contract negotiations with vendors to develop scope and value

Proven experience with facility design, engineering and construction and persuasive advocate for good design

Proven ability to deliver on a project's established scope, schedule and budget, and keen understanding of entertainment related production schedules, milestones and timelines

Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to express creative ideas

Demonstrated expertise with computer spreadsheet and word processing skills as well as a comprehensive skill level to operate basic CAD and drawing or plotting programs

Strong troubleshooting, problem solving and decision-making skills, often under pressure

High level of self-motivation to pursue international and domestic opportunities/challenges

High level of organization and the ability to handle multiple international and domestic U.S., high-budget projects simultaneously

Flexibility to occasionally work long hours during production mounting and rehearsal phases

Strong sense of team work, team building and inspiring teams

Ability to be flexible with work schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Ability to travel on domestic and international assignments as needed

Preferred Qualifications

Proven knowledge and proficiency in some or all of the following engineering disciplines: structural, mechanical, electrical, software, safety

Any theatrical touring or on-site experience in non-domestic U.S. considered a plus

Proven business management experience

Knowledge of the following is highly desirable: power, conduit and cable requirements and conventions; common mechanical, structural, plumbing and HVAC terminology and practices; common equipment mounting and securing techniques; standard practices for equipment locations including maintenance access and operational procedures

Fluency in any other language is a plus (Mandarin, French, Japanese, Spanish, etc.)

Experience in live show development with The Walt Disney Company

Required Education

Bachelor's degree in Technical Theater studies or equivalent degree in theatre design, construction and/or engineering and production

Preferred Education

Master's Degree in Technical Theater or equivalent with focus on technical design, construction and/or engineering and production
