Position Summary

Responsible for assisting with recreational activities and services for all persons using the Garland recreation centers. 
Essential Job Functions
Provide information to the public regarding recreation center activities; register participants for classes and activities.
Assist the public via phone or walk-up to give information regarding programs, schedules and other related information.
Perform custodial and customer service to keep the Recreation Center clean, orderly and properly set up for events and activities.
Assist in inventory control of equipment and supplies.
Supervise recreation activities and events.
Enforce and maintain City and Department policies as needed including interpreting and relating department rules and policies to customers.
Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills
Education/ Experience:     

Six months to one year experience in a recreation or sports facility

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:           

Basic knowledge of a variety of recreation activities and the ability to communicate that knowledge into organized activities
Basic knowledge of First Aid and CPR procedures
Basic knowledge of supervision procedures for activities and events
Basic knowledge of recreational equipment and correct operation
Basic skill in operating office equipment and personal computer
Basic skill in operating equipment and supplies for custodial or technical assignments
Ability to work independently of the supervisor

Licenses & Certifications Valid Class C Texas driver's license
Physical Tasks & Working ConditionsThe incumbent works typically in both indoor and outdoor environment and may be subjected to extremes of heat and cold, rain, humidity, noise, etc. Physical tasks include heavy lifting, bending, squatting, stooping, walking, and carrying supplies (up to 20 lbs). Shift ranges from 10-20 hours per week and includes evenings and weekends.

Minimum Education & Work Experience  Up to 1 year college coursework in Recreation, Parks or Sports Management Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

The Recycling Center, Transfer Station, and Hinton Landfill will be closed Monday, Dec. 25 and Monday, Jan. 1. Environmental Waste Services' offices will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 26. Phase 6 Cart Delivery Schedule Yellow Week: Jan. 23 – 26 Blue Week: Jan. 30 – Feb. 2 Once your blue cart is delivered you may keep your red bin. If you would like to recycle your red bin place it in the blue container or drop it off at Garland’s Recycling Center, located at 1426 Commerce St. Please call 972-205-3500 or email EWS@GarlandTX.gov if you have any questions. Don't Go Tarpless! The operator of any vehicle arriving at the Hinton Landfill, wood recycling center, or Garland's transfer station which does not have a suitable cover placed over the vehicle's load, shall pay a surcharge of $20 per City of Garland Code of Ordinances, Chapter 52, Article II, Sec. 52.47(F). The transfer station and landfill sell tarps for $10 each, but covering and securing your load from the beginning of your trip will be more effective at preventing litter.
