Job Title Assistant Director of Engineering
The Assistant Director of Engineering will supervise, motivate, cross train, and direct staff engineering personnel. The Assistant Director of Engineering maintains work schedules and arranges for fill-in shifts for vacations, sick days, etc. This role manages departmental spending and purchasing in line with established departmental budgets. • Assists with departmental budgeting, capital budgeting, strategic planning and development as well as project planning and management. \r
• Interacts will all employees of the television staff in all departments. \r
• Communicates clearly and objectively and assists non-technical people in understanding complex technical topics. \r
• Supervise installation and maintenance of television broadcast, IT and related equipment. Will act as project manager on large installations. Also performs hands on installation and maintenance of equipment as necessary alongside staff engineers. Work may include weekend work, overnights, holidays and other times outside normal weekday work hours - particularly in emergency situations. Essential Job Functions 50% - Supervises, directs and cross-trains engineering staff, ensures staff is working on assigned projects, assists as necessary 30% - Manages engineering department spending and purchasing, including maintaining PO system 10% - Assists with department budgeting, capital budgeting, strategic planning and project development 10% - Performs maintenance and repair duties as needed.
Education:Associate's degree in Television Broadcast technology, Electronics Technology, Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent training and/or experience.
Five to seven years related experience as a supervisor or manager of technical or engineering staff at a broadcast television facility, broadcast radio facility or cable television MSO
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to supervise and direct technical staff members and assist with their work
Ability to work with technical employees to set schedules, arrange fill-in to cover for sick and vacations when necessary.
Mid-level knowledge of high power transmitter systems, RF systems, antennas and towers.
Ability to perform troubleshooting work down to the component level.
Solid working knowledge of Excel and other basic financial worksheet applications, including online systems such as Oracle finance.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Basic knowledge of common building and infrastructure systems such as HVAC, telephones, cable TV systems.
Demonstrated knowledge of mid-level computer networking, computer software and systems.
