Job Description
This is an excellent opportunity to work for the Community & Library Services Department
working under the direction of the Summer Day Camp Coordinator in the Summer Day Camp program. Candidate must be able to work the hours/days of camp: Camp hours: 7am-6pm Monday through Friday, June 27th to August 19th.
The ideal candidate must possess effective and cooperative communication and interpersonal skills and work well in a variety of environments. Excellent customer service skills and people skills are required.
Temporary/part-time employment is restricted to 1,000 hours within a 12-month period (July 1 - June 30) and does not qualify to receive City benefits, except those required by law. The City does not belong to the Social Security system. However, enrollment in an alternative retirement program is mandatory which requires an employee contribution of 7½% of base earnings to the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS). There are no rights to employment and employment may end with or without cause or advance notice. Further restrictions apply to CalPERS Retired Annuitants.
Examples of Essential Duties
With direction of the Summer Day Camp Coordinator: Responds to customer inquires
Disseminates information regarding the Summer Day Camp Program
Assists with planning and coordination of Summer Day Camp activities
Provides supervision of participants on excursions including overseeing the safety of participants.
The preceding functions have been provided as examples of the types of work performed by employees assigned to this job classification. The City at its discretion, may add, modify, change or rescind work assignments as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of
: Current trends in recreation programs and activities.
Ability to
: Supervise program participants in a variety of environments, while creating positive relationships within the community; provide excellent customer service to the community at all times; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; operate personal computer and related software; maintain accurate records; record and retrieve information; lift or move up to 50 pounds without assistance, as well as heavier objects with assistance.
Education and Experience
: High school graduation required. One year of college and one year of experience in recreation leadership or equivalent preferred.
CPR/First Aid/AED Certificates
: Must possess by time of appointment.

THE CITY GOVERNMENT
Founded in the late 1880s, Huntington Beach was incorporated as a Charter City in 1909. Huntington Beach has a City Council/ City Manager form of government.
