Director, Comedy Development (FX Networks)
Job Summary:
FX is seeking a Director of Comedy Development to scout and develop scripted comedies. The Director will maintain relationships with management companies, producers, agencies and the entertainment community to identify and engage comedians, writers, directors, animators and actors.
Responsibilities:
• Manage FX's half hour comedy slate including live action and animation. Oversee the script development process, department tracking documents and production pipelines.
• Evaluate written material and pitches, providing creative notes for the development team.
• Solicit material and talent from internal DGE studios as well as outside vendors for potential development projects.
• Scout, track and engage comedy talent, attend external comedy shows and update team on state of marketplace.
Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum 4 years of manager experience in television/film development and production required
• Demonstrated ability to package, lead and oversee multiple projects
• Excellent verbal and written communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
• Strong interpersonal skills with a solid base knowledge of industry players, agents, writers, directors, talent, and comedy marketplace
• Strong critical analysis and attention to detail skills
• Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Strong interest in comedy series development for cable/streaming television
• Demonstrated skill in developing and maintaining effective business relationships is necessary
• Highly organized with the ability to multitask and work effectively under changing priorities and daily time constraints
Required Education
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
